This Michigan High School Won 9 Championships Last Year
Detroit Catholic Central is a powerhouse that somehow pulled off a fantastic athletic year
A private school in Novi with a lot of notable athletic history just pulled off one of the greatest athletic school years the country has ever seen.
In the 2025-26 school year, the Detroit Catholic Central Shamrocks won nine different state championships across Michigan sports this year.
DCC has been an institution since 1928 and is the high school alma mater to some incredibly prominent figures in Michigan ranging from former Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan to current University of Michigan hockey coach Brandon Naruto.
With all the state championship wins as well as 33 student-athletes committed to continuing athletics at the collegiate level, odds are more than one of the class of ‘26 will be added to that list of notable alumni.
It started last November when the Shamrock football team led by head coach Justin Cesante knocked off Cass Tech to win the Division I championship at Ford Field.
A perfect 14-0 season was capped with a dominant 42-19 victory in which Texas Tech commit Gideon Gash caught three touchdowns, giving the Shamrocks their first football title since 2009.
Following football season came championships in Esports, fishing, hockey, and wrestling. Their 6-0 hockey win over Northville at USA Hockey Arena is their seventh straight state championship in a season where they lost a grand total of two out of thirty one total games.
Their momentum did not stop there, as the Shamrocks took home state titles in golf, baseball, lacrosse and rugby in the spring. Catholic Central had not won a state championship in baseball since 1999, led by Cincinnati Bearcat commits Dylan Fairchild and Andrew Mahoney the Shamrocks knocked off Rochester Adams 7-0 at McLane Stadium two weeks ago.
Two weeks before that, the lacrosse team beat Hudsonville 14-10 to secure their second DI state title in three years, and in that same week the golf team completed a three-peat, beating rival Brother Rice by a mere two strokes.
Nine championships in one academic year. Either some shady recruiting is going on or Catholic Central is the place to be for athletics.
