The Best Football Teams Had the Biggest Blowouts in Week 1

Detroit Catholic Central

This team is everything they were last year and more. The Shamrocks shut out Chippewa Valley in a brutally lopsided 55-0 victory at Wayne State on Thursday. Texas Tech commit Gideon Gash had two touchdowns, including one on a punt return. QB Duke Banta was incredibly accurate as always. This is the team to beat this year.

Cass Tech

The runner-up to DCC in last year's Division 1 state championship got off to a hot start, annihilating Michigan City 62-0. Donald Tabron made it look easy tossing the ball around casually for 20-yard touchdowns left and right. You’ve heard it here first: Get ready for a championship rematch in November.

Saline

After losing QB Tommy Carr to U-M, the Hornets dominated another very talented team in Rockford to begin the season. Sophomore QB Case Campbell slung two touchdowns to senior wide receiver Cruz Hanson, while senior running back Carson Cherry exploded for a 70-yard touchdown run late in the game to seal a 39-12 victory.

Romeo

The Bulldogs got a crucial first win at Michigan Stadium against Rochester Adams 17-10. Senior quarterback Tyler deCardenas was all over the Big House field, including this crazy trick play for a touchdown, making up for losing senior wideout Troy Smith to injury in the first quarter. The Bulldogs will have another tough test against Port Huron Northern next week.

Brother Rice

Another Catholic school to watch as the Warriors defeated Dakota 30-20 to open the year. The game was highlighted by wide receiver Brock Zehnder, who had seven catches for 163 yards and two touchdowns in the first half alone. Quarterback Sam Eyde finished the game with 176 passing yards, making Zehnder account for 92% of Eyde’s passing yards on the day. Definitely a connection to look for come playoff time.
