The Iran War Comes to Metro Detroit
Radical Islam is on the rise here, and the terror attack on Temple Israel proves it
West Bloomfield — A miracle occurred at Temple Israel Synagogue when 140 children were saved by a good guy with a gun.
On Thursday afternoon, 41-year-old Ayman Mohamad Ghazali, a naturalized Lebanese immigrant residing in Dearborn Heights, allegedly breached the complex with his truck, driving the vehicle into the building occupied by 140 children and several adult staff. After striking a security guard who is now recovering from injuries, the terrorist gunman was engaged by a second armed security guard and shot dead.

Ghazali’s motive appears to have been revenge for the deaths of family members by Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon over the weekend, in theory, indicating this was possibly the first attack on the American home front in response to the joint U.S.-Israeli military efforts against Iran and its terror proxies.
The terror attack in West Bloomfield, essentially an act of war, would have been devastating had religious institutions in Michigan not hardened themselves as targets in recent years, and in Temple Israel's case, in recent weeks. According to the Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard, the Jewish religious complex had undertaken FBI Active Shooter training in January.
In June 2025, Michigan Enjoyer reported on the attempted mass shooting at Crosspointe Community Church in Wayne, where a gunman also attempted to breach the building with his vehicle while Sunday services were ongoing and several children were present. During that attempt, armed security engaged the shooter and eliminated the threat almost immediately with assistance by a deacon arriving late for service.
Enjoyer spoke with local area gun dealers who reported ongoing training with local faith institutions using private security and armed congregants as defensive countermeasures. We spoke with a retired police officer with years of undercover experience working as a private security contractor at a Jewish faith-based organization, who claimed the facility was receiving an alarming level of threats after the October 7 terror attack in Israel by Hamas.
The attack in West Bloomfield being a direct response to U.S.-Israeli military actions comes after the FBI and State Department gave advance warning of possible terror responses by Iran-backed terror groups believed to already be operating domestically.
In hindsight, this act occurring in Metro Detroit makes obvious sense. Last year, we saw an attempted attack on Warren’s TACOM by a radicalized Muslim American from Melvindale, and the planned October 2025 Halloween attack allegedly targeting downtown Ferndale by two young Muslim men from Dearborn.
In each case, the suspects were Muslim men living in or near Dearborn and radicalized by Islamic terror groups, which should be a wakeup call Michigan residents who take for granted that terror attacks “could never happen here.” It’s an absurd notion that bad actors influenced by radical Islam would never hit Metro Detroit, given that four areas in Wayne County alone hold the largest concentration of Muslims in America.
Now begins an uncomfortable game of media messaging and narrative control as something everyone knows—that radical Islam is a significant national security threat—conflicts with the Left’s messaging.
The mayor of Dearborn Heights, Mo Baydoun, first statement seemed coldly ripped straight from Twitter, mocking the political establishment, stating his office was “Monitoring this incident very closely.”
