Slotkin Says Democrats Can’t Win if Noncitizens Can’t Vote

What we call “making sure only citizens can vote in Michigan,” Democrats like Sen. Elissa Slotkin call “rigging our democracy.”

In a recent speech, Slotkin made a most unusual argument against the Save America Act. She didn’t just act as if women and black people would be disenfranchised by the requirement that voters prove citizenship. Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson also favors that argument, and uses it all the time.

Slotkin took it a step further in saying why she tried to block the legislation. She said requiring proof of citizenship for voters would make it hard for Democrats to win “any” state in “any” election.

She said the Save America Act would “literally allow this administration to rig our democracy so that it would be hard for any Democrat in any state to win any election.” She also said it would “disenfranchise all married women.”

Because she’s a Democrat girlboss, Slotkin had to invoke the narrative of female victimhood. But she’s the first to point out the extinction-level problem facing Democrats: That Democrats can’t win if only citizens can vote.

This wasn’t a dog whistle, it was a whistle. This was Slotkin saying the quiet part out loud.

Slotkin’s fear is why Benson, now running for governor, refuses to turn over the same Michigan voter rolls to the feds that she hands to NGOs like ERIC and Rock the Vote. If the feds saw how dirty Michigan’s voter rolls are, it would be a credibility killer.

And if the average Michigander learned how reliant Democrats are on noncitizen votes, Democrats would never recover.

Consider this. Michigan is a shrinking state of 10 million. We only have one growth category: noncitizens. How else does Benson find 150,000 new voters to register every single month?

U.S. Senate Republicans should’ve heard Slotkin’s remarks, ended their summer vacation, returned to Washington, and passed the Save America Act immediately. Sadly, they have more pressing matters to tend to, like campaigning for re-election.

Michigan voters could have a chance to approve a state version of the Save America Act called Citizens Only Voting.

Those pushing the constitutional amendment turned in their signatures months ago, in the hopes of making the Nov. 3 ballot. They haven’t yet heard back.

Meanwhile, the Democrat-favoring “money out of politics” amendment, which would keep energy companies like DTE from involving themselves in politics, passed muster with the Board of Canvassers just last week.

Democrats face extinction if the door is closed to noncitizens voting. Just ask them.

If the Republicans in Washington won’t close that door in America, Republicans in Michigan must close it ourselves.
