Sex Isn't Driving the Scandals at Detroit City Hall

Let’s get some facts straight.

Detroit Mary Sheffield has not one but two former lovers. Their names are Marvin Walker and Brian McKinney.

The three are being investigated for a raft of public corruption accusations ranging from kickbacks to the mass poisoning of the city. Authorities are swarming city hall like fire ants to a honey pot.

Lacking the details, the media has plucked the low-hanging fruit, such as the high-strung activist craving 15 more minutes in the public spotlight or a former chief of police who throws shade from a barstool.

But this billowing scandal is not about sex. It’s about the potential illegalities when Sheffield was serving on City Council. It’s about the sell-out of the city and its citizens for personal gain.

And there is plenty of documentation to support the suspicions if the media would only bother to dig it up.

First, let’s look at Marvin Walker, a.k.a. Loverboy No. 2. Walker is an unsavory character with a rap sheet and connections to Detroit’s underworld. He began a relationship with Sheffield back in 2020, a fact that Sheffield confirms.

When intimate images of the couple began appearing online earlier this year, Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison opened a secret investigation into Walker, looking for any pretext to arrest him.

In the end, the secret investigation was not finding dirt on Walker. Rather, police detectives were unearthing scandal at all levels of the city. The details led back to Sheffield.

The chief tried to bury the investigation. But honest cops contacted the feds, who came to police headquarters and seized the report.

FBI agents informed the police that “they would be taking the Public Corruption side of the case” and that the FBI “would no longer be providing case updates to DPD in regard to this case going forward.”

Then there is Brian McKinney—Loverboy No. 1—who is also a disreputable character, an ex-con who owned a demolition company. Sheffield began a romantic relationship with McKinney back in 2018. This, too, Sheffield has confirmed.

Again, the story is not about sex but rather the raping of the city. As she was sleeping with McKinney, Sheffield helped rewrite the city’s demolition rules in a way that gave McKinney a near monopoly on demolition contracts. Sheffield, as city council president pro tem, voted for his contracts while accepting gifts from McKinney.

When confronted with the facts while running to be Detroit’s mayor last year, Sheffield baldly lied to the public.

McKinney now finds himself the target of a federal investigation after Michigan Enjoyer discovered last year that he used poisoned dirt to fill the holes where houses once stood.

The media knows about the federal investigation. They have reported as much while dishonestly claiming it as exclusive news. Indictments are expected soon, and there is plenty to report about the dirty dirt, the gifts, and the graft.

The media needs to start being reporters rather than trying to play them on TV. The public deserves that much.
