Do you think adolescents as young as 13 should be learning about abortion access, birth control, and gender-affirming care?
Well, they are, and you’re paying for it.
A Freedom of Information Act request asking the Michigan Health and Human Services for a list of all nonprofits it funded in 2024 showed that the Michigan Organization On Adolescent Sexual Health received at least $206,222 in taxpayer funding.
Despite its name, this 501(c)(3) is not a government agency. Rather, it is a nonprofit that receives taxpayer funding through MDHHS.
According to its mission statement, MOASH “mobilizes youth voices, engages community partners, and informs decision-makers to advance sexual health, identities, and rights.” MOASH’s Instagram account confirms its “commitment to advancing adolescent rights in Michigan” for youth ages 13-24.
Linked on the website is a guide to “Gender-Affirming Care” with a reminder that “Michigan’s Medicaid policy explicitly allows for transition-related care.”
The guide then links providers, including Catherine’s Health Center, which received nearly $2 million in funding from MDHHS last year, and the Ruth Ellis Center, another recipient of ongoing taxpayer support.
Together, this network of “sexual health” providers is working together to advance a radical agenda without parental involvement with public money.
Events sponsored by MOASH with your tax dollars include BAMM, an “LGBTQ+ Youth Summit,”, and LiFT, a retreat designed for ages 13-24 where children can talk about sex with “support adults.”
The event does not clarify what a “support adult” is. Any adult? Could this potentially include unsafe adults who are grooming impressionable kids? What if a teen does not identify as LGBTQ?
And what events does MOASH provide for heterosexual teenagers? Does this organization exist only to confuse teenagers about their sexual orientation and gender identity while alienating them from their parents?
The MOASH Instagram account recently advertised a link explaining abortion access for young people and an advertisement for birth control. In Michigan, parental consent is required for women under the age of 18 seeking an abortion.
A guide from MOASH is even more explicit about abortion access and tells youth how to get a judicial bypass around parental consent.
Why is this organization showing young people how to get an abortion without their parents’ involvement?
That an organization exists in Michigan to provide a how-to guide for teenagers on sex and gender changes, encourage a culture of promiscuity, and normalize abortion as healthcare should be alarming to every parent.
If that’s not bad enough, you are paying for it.
Not only are you paying for it, but they are influencing and shaping Michigan legislative policies on sex education. In 2023, Executive Director Taryn Gal and Youth Member Nupur Huria testified on behalf of MOASH in support of expanding abortion access to Michigan youth, stating: “Abortion is safe. Abortion is Common. Abortion is healthcare.”
MOASH recently helped “develop legislation” that would allow schools to distribute condoms and become more inclusive to LGBTQ+ students.
Huria was quoted in the Livingston Post as saying, “Without quality sex education instruction, students are left to scour the internet for answers, some of which is accurate, but much of it is not.”
It’s almost like Huria was referring to her own organization.
On Instagram, there are many videos of “transgender” teens sharing their transition experience, happy lesbians holding hands, and rainbow-infused pictures from MOASH events.
In a video, several adults share their stories about sex education and sexual orientation while shaming purity culture.
The caption reads “education that leaves young people not feeling represented, downright confused, horrified, and unsure of what is happening with their own bodies? Noooo thank you.”
Isn’t that exactly what MOASH is—sex education that leaves young people questioning and confused about their true identities, horrified of their own bodies, and unsure about who they can trust for advice on sexual health?
MOASH is using our money to promote a harmful, radical agenda that is not based on science and truth, does not respect parental rights, does not respect religious freedom, is not “inclusive” of heterosexual orientations, does not share the choice to be abstinent, and doesn’t even provide accurate sex education.
Fortunately, Michigan parents can still opt their children out of sex education in public schools. After you opt out and block MOASH on Instagram, ask your state representative to defund MOASH immediately.
