Maykol Duarte, 18, is one of the victims of illegal immigration that we don’t talk about.
Had it been any of the other three boys in the car driving that day, tailgating the police chief, Duarte might be graduating from Detroit’s Western International High School right now instead of getting deported.
But Duarte was in America illegally, and driving without a license. Duarte was always a traffic stop away from reality. And that traffic stop happened late last month, just weeks from graduation.
Illegal immigration is cruel. Most times that tale is told, society and the taxpaying citizen are presented as the victim. And they are. Illegal immigration is both fraud and theft, even if no other crime is committed.
But what about the illegal immigrant himself, who is forced to live a lie, and who has been sold a halo of protection that does not exist? What about Maykol Duarte, speeding and joking around with his friends one second, in federal custody the next? What becomes of him?
The Democrat-Media alliance wants you to blame Trump for Duarte’s sad state right now. But Joe Biden and the Democrats, who flung open the southern border, are a more appropriate target. As MLive explains:
“Duarte moved to the United States after he and his mother applied for asylum nearly three years ago, according to (his attorney). An immigration judge denied their application and an appeal was later dismissed.”
“Because of that, Duarte has had a deportation order since 2024.”
Biden’s open-border policy led to this situation. Duarte had no right to be in this country, and he had been told so in a court of law.
But before that, he was told that asylum was a few clicks away and that a Democrat in the White House would let them stay. Is it any wonder he would be confused? Wouldn’t you be?
Duarte’s attorney insists he would leave America voluntarily after finishing his studies. But would he, if not for the traffic stop? Why would he, if not for an inciting event like an arrest?
More likely is that Duarte would have stayed and prayed, and in 20 years, we would be told he’d been here for 20 years, and that the only humane option would be to grant amnesty.
Duarte’s family was brought to America on false pretenses, and because they were politically useful. When their usefulness ran out, and the Democrats’ power ran out, nobody told the Duartes. They had to find out the hard way, with Maykol behind bars.
If and when Democrats come to control America again, they will surely pass amnesty for the estimated 50 million illegals. This would be a final tearing of the American social contract. But by then it won’t matter what you or I think, because America will be a one-party blue state.
Mass deportation is about avoiding that day. Closing the border is only half the battle; there has to be a rollback of the illegal immigrant population, and it has to be substantial.
There are millions more Maykol Duartes among us. Maybe they’re your kid’s friend at school.
Mass deportation means there is more heartbreak to come. Many more illusions will be shattered by reality. Many more people will miss graduation ceremonies, births, and funerals. And none of it would have happened if the Duartes were not told that America was the land of milk and honey and asylum.
It was a cruel act to bring the Duarte family here under false pretenses. Maykol Duarte deserved better than to be a pawn in Joe Biden’s game.
