Michigan's Climate Change Cult Never Broke Up

More than half of Democrats still rank climate change as our biggest existential threat

By James Dickson · October 7, 2026

You might be worried about the price of gas, but your neighbor with the Abdul El-Sayed sign is cheering for high gas prices. She thinks that if the pain is severe enough, you will join her in the climate cult.

It’s not just politics for these people, though they are hoping that the high cost of living will sink Republicans in November. No, these are true believers.

A recent Enjoyer poll conducted by Cygnal in coordination with Beacon Research produced an eye-popping result: 54% of committed Democrats think that “climate change” is the biggest threat to human life.

Rogue AI, which is on the tip of every tongue in both political parties, rated 24%. Actual nuclear war? Just 18%.

The climate cult got bad news last month when the Trump Administration killed the Biden-era EV mandate. Biden drove corporate fuel economy standards so high—50.4 miles per gallon—that Detroit automakers were forced to pivot to electric vehicles.

Trump returned fuel standards to sanity, under the banner that “freedom means affordable cars.”

Biden’s EV mandate cost automakers billions. It forced people out of their jobs. All to create vehicles that the government wanted made, but consumers did not want to buy.

When Biden pushed for EVs out of Washington, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer followed suit in Lansing.

Whitmer made a goal to see 2 million EVs on Michigan roads by 2030, and employed every government resource and incentive to get there. With four years to go, Michigan is still about 1.9 million from hitting that mark.

In 2022, the state of Michigan gave $100 million to Ford to hire 3,000 workers to build EVs. Two months later, Ford laid off 3,000 white-collar workers. Now that Trump is in office, the Detroit automakers have dropped the EV charade.

There is no reason to believe that climate change is a world-ending threat. Just as there’s no reason to think that Covid is still a threat in 2026. But leftists still believe all these things anyway.

The next time you complain about high gas prices, and your liberal neighbor smiles about it, it’s not just about Donald Trump.

Misery loves company, and they’re hoping to have you in the climate cult.
