This Chinese Communist Gave Jocelyn Benson All He Could

Comrade Pin Ni is an awarded member of the CCP, automotive company CEO, and donor to Benson's campaign for governor

Just after Michigan Enjoyer linked Jocelyn Benson’s ties to AI Data Centers and Big Solar, there’s another troubling link, connecting her to a member of the Chinese Communist Party and automotive CEO.

Pin Ni, who serves on the board of directors of Wanxiang Automotive group, donated $8,325, the maximum annual contribution limit, to Jocelyn Benson’s campaign for governor, in July according to Michigan Campaign Finance Records—which is also run by Jocelyn Benson.

As previously reported by the Washington Free Beacon, Comrade Pin Ni has been awarded the title of “Model Worker of the Group” over a dozen times according to the company website.

The company website also said Ni embodies the spirit of senior communist official Lu Guanqiu, Ni’s father-in-law, who founded the Wanxiang Group in 1969.

In 2021, the Chinese Communist Party posthumously named Comrade Guanqiu a “National Excellent Communist Party Member,” so Ni has big shoes to fill.

Wanxiang is China’s largest producer of EV auto parts and specializes in a variety of green energy initiatives. Wanxiang has been the subject of ongoing litigation with the Department of Justice regarding fraudulently imported automotive parts.

In December, the DOJ collected $53 million in civil penalties as part of a settlement in that litigation, which lasted nearly 10 years.

During their successful campaigns for governor, Abigail Spanberger of Virginia and Mikie Sherrill of New Jersey came under scrutiny for accepting donations from Pin Ni. Unfortunately, they won their elections.

Joseph Cella, a cofounder of the Michigan-China Economic and Security Review Group and a key player in exposing and defeating the installation of a CCP-linked Gotion Battery Factory, told the Washington Free Beacon that Sherrill’s decision to accept donations from Pin Ni "exemplifies a gross lack of judgment."

Gotion is now in default of a $23.6 million land purchase near Big Rapids, Michigan, after the deal fell through, largely due to massive public pushback. If Michigan’s next governor is already taking money from the CCP, how do we know this won’t happen again?

Michigan is the birthplace of the American automotive industry, and EVs remain unpopular. Our next governor should reflect our strong history of American-made innovation and manufacturing, and, more importantly, their campaign should be funded by Americans.

Let’s hope Michigan rejects a governor who accepts money from award-winning communists.
