If you check 247sports.com, one of the top resources for high school recruiting, you’ll see only three players in the class of 2026 from Michigan in the top 150. Check rivals.com, you say? Same thing. Well, the MHSAA surely must have preseason rankings of some sort published by now, right? I mean, we’ve already finished football season, and hockey’s underway.
Still nothing.
Did Michigan basketball live and die with Trey McKinney and Macari Moore? Must all Michigan high school basketball fans deep dive Twitter to find out who’s good, bad, and maybe even ugly? Or will the season pick up?
As our Enjoyer recaps ramp up, we can guarantee you’ll at least have one place to get your high school basketball news.
Here are five players to watch out for this season:
Cameron Ryans — Northview (2026), Western Michigan Commit
The strong two-way forward had 27 points to start the year against Godwin Heights.
Greg Grays Jr. — Brother Rice (2026), Detroit Mercy Commit
A sharpshooting guard who plays for D-Rice Elite AAU.
KJ Torbert — East Lansing (2026), Bowling Green Commit
A leader during a state championship run last year, Torbert averaged 20 points per game as a junior. He’s a favorite for the Mr. Basketball award.
Darien Stewart — West Ottawa (2028)
This 6’7″ forward (no that isn’t a joke) hopes to lead West Ottawa to the playoffs after missing last season.
Keyshawn Summerville — Lansing Sexton (2027)
Summerville has landed five Divison I offers going into his junior season, while hoping to repeat as district champions with Lansing Sexton this year.
